THE PROBLEM WITH BURNING

A burning cigarette releases over 6,000 chemicals, many of which are harmful. It’s the high levels of these harmful chemicals present in cigarette smoke that are the primary cause of smoking-related diseases.

There is no doubt about it: the best choice any smoker can make is to quit tobacco and nicotine entirely—but the reality is that many don’t.

When a cigarette is lit it burns tobacco at temperatures of up to 900C. This high temperature generates the vast number and high levels of harmful chemicals found in cigarette smoke. Scientific studies have shown that as the temperature of tobacco increases, the number and levels of harmful chemicals formed also increases.

A burning cigarette releases harmful chemicals which is the cause of many smoking-related diseases.

THE PROBLEM WITH BURNING.

Everybody knows smoking cigarettes is addictive and causes serious disease. But not everyone knows why.

The main problem is the smoke produced when tobacco is burned.

A burning cigarette releases over 6,000 chemicals and many are harmful.

It's the high levels of these harmful chemicals present in cigarette smoke, not nicotine that are the primary cause of smoking-related diseases.

When you remove burning, it's possible to significantly reduce exposure to these harmful chemicals.

Alternatives to continued smoking that don't burn, now exist such as:

heated tobacco products, e-cigarettes and oral smokeless products.

These alternatives are not risk-free and provide nicotine, which is addictive.

While smoke-free alternatives are a much better choice than continuing to smoke, the best choice for any smoker is to quit cigarettes and nicotine use altogether.

Smoke -free alternatives are only for adults who would otherwise continue smoking.

WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU REMOVE THE BURNING?

When you remove burning, it’s possible to significantly reduce exposure to these harmful chemicals. This is the case with smoke-free alternatives such as e-cigarettes, heated tobacco products and oral smokeless products.

These alternatives are not risk-free and provide nicotine, which is addictive. The best choice for anyone who smokes is to quit tobacco and nicotine altogether. For those adults who do not, switching to a scientifically substantiated smoke-free alternative is a much better choice.

Tobacco is a plant which contains high levels of nicotine. Nicotine is addictive and not risk-free.

The burning of the tobacco produces a complex mixture we call smoke.

Smoke contains high levels of harmful and potentially harmful chemicals associated with smoking-related diseases.
